Fiji Community Center

FIJISUN USA TO ASSIST IN LAUNCHING FIJI COMMUNITY CENTER IN USA

By H. Koya

HAYWARD, CA- More than 12 years ago at a very meager Fiji Indian get together at the Mehran Restaurant, FIJI SUN USA announced another its aggressive coomunity program, a community center for Fiji Americans.

After giving the first FIJI AWARDS NIGHT and the first MISS FIJIUSA, Fiji Sun publisher took a lead role in announcing the new project.

As the society was small then and, the project remained mainly in the news columns and as part of the program outline published in the augural issue of the Fiji yellow pages, a Fiji Sun publication.

The Fiji American community has since grown tremendously with an infllux of people exisitng Fiji after multiple military coups.

Fiji Americans are proud that for past several years they have been enjoying the Fiji Festival hoste by FANA, the Fiji American National Association of which MISS FIJIUSA has become an very important part.

The Fiji fetsival draws more than 5000 people for the two-day July 4th weekend festivties at the Cal State Hayward grounds.

The growth is significant and it is time that a Fiji Community Center be created and the Fiji Sun-USA is already in lead role to help realize the goal. For more information, please visit:
